Pediatric Radiology

Pediatric radiology includes imaging exams that allow a radiologist to quickly and accurately identify a condition and/or its stage of progression in children, from babies to teenagers. These pediatric exams are typically ordered by another physician to investigate a problem or follow-up on a treatment procedure a child has undergone.

These exams may use x-rays, sound waves, magnetic fields, or small amounts of radioactive materials to non-invasively create images of the inside of the body. Some exams may also use a contrast agent that makes certain tissue more visible in the images. A radiologist then examines these images for abnormalities.

Many pediatric exams are similar to exams performed on adults. However, the differences in children’s organs, tissues and body functions must be taken into account when these exams are performed on children. INVISION has several pediatric radiologists who specialize in reading children’s imaging results and identifying health issues that are unique to children.

Pediatric imaging exams are performed at hospitals staffed by RIA physicians and read by INVISION pediatric radiologists. Some pediatric exams are performed at INVISION imaging centers.

Pediatric exams evaluated by INVISION radiologists include:

INVISION pediatric radiologists also perform interventional radiology procedures. These procedures use image-guided techniques to treat illness and often provide a less invasive alternative to surgery.
