Procedures
Radiology procedures offer non-surgical ways to shrink tumors and reduce pain. Various imaging techniques are used to guide catheters to the site of the tumors, where heat, radiation or chemotherapy drugs can be applied directly to the tumor site.
The benefits of interventional radiology techniques include relief of pain and suffering for many cancer patients. These procedures are usually highly tolerable. Most patients may only feel tired for a few days and may resume their normal routines as early as the next day. There very few complications and these procedures have the possibility of being combined with other treatments or repeated if necessary.
Cancer treatment procedures performed by RIA interventional radiologists include:
- Radiofrequency Ablation
- Yttrium-90 Microsphere Radioembolization
- Chemoembolization
- Isolated Hepatic Perfusion
