Frequently Asked Questions

Following are answers to the most commonly asked questions at the INVISION Vein & Laser Center.

Q What is endovenous laser therapy?
A Endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) was FDA-approved in 2002. EVLT is a quick, minimally invasive laser treatment that requires no hospitalization and no complicated surgery. The entire procedure, start to finish, takes about one hour and causes minimal to no pain. Performed under ultrasound guidance, EVLT uses laser energy to treat the underlying cause of varicose veins by closing off the vein to any future blood flow. Your body then naturally uses other healthy veins to return blood from the heart.

Q What are the complications of endovenous laser therapy?
A Major complications from this procedure are very rare. Various levels of discomfort can occur as well as some bruising.

Q Will I need to be hospitalized or take time off from work?
A Treatment is on an outpatient basis during convenient office visits. You can resume most activities shortly after each session.

Q What other tests are required for treatment?
A A complete ultrasound is required. This state-of-the-art technology provides painless and non-invasive testing, and is performed in the physician's office.

Q How soon can I resume normal activity after the treatment?
A Most patients resume normal activities within 1-2 days. For a few weeks following the treatment, your doctor may recommend a regular walking regimen and suggest that you refrain from very strenuous activities (heavy lifting for example) or prolonged periods of standing.

Q Will there be scarring, bruising or swelling following the procedure?
A Patients report minimal to no scarring, bruising, or swelling following the closure procedure.

Q Is endovascular laser therapy covered by my insurance?
A Most major insurance carriers cover the procedure. We will work with you to determine your carrier's coverage.
