Professional Services
Following are just a few of the programs Radiology Imaging Associates has developed. We are constantly searching for new programs to enhance the quality of service that we in partnership with our hospital partners provide to our community. Our goal is to continuously increase the quality level of patient care.
Teleradiology and night/weekend coverage
RIA has been an innovator in this arena since the 1980s. We were the first group in Denver to institute night coverage by teleradiology. We have expanded this into an extremely sophisticated network, which connects all of our locations 24 hrs/day and allows blanket subspecialty coverage of the practice. Currently, RIA has four radiologists working 4:00pm to 9:00pm. on a full-time basis to interpret and dictate cases. From 9:00pm to 7:00am, there are two radiologists continually available. Additionally, there are three back up radiologists available on-call for emergency interventional radiology cases. We believe we provide the most comprehensive coverage in this or any surrounding state.
Breast Imaging
Drs. William Jobe and Steve Parker had a vision in the 1980s to revolutionize the delivery of breast diagnosis and care. They developed the nationally recognized Sally Jobe Breast Center; for years, they have trained national and international physicians in the techniques they developed. In addition, Dr. Thomas Stavros is a pioneer in diagnostic breast ultrasound, and continues to lecture internationally as the recognized expert in this field.
Advanced MRI and CT
Drs. Peter Ricci, Donald Schomer, Andrew Sonin, and Steve Heiss, among others, are our nationally recognized experts in these fields. They have instituted functional MR imaging and MR spectroscopy as a routine procedure in Colorado. In addition, we have developed highly sophisticated body imaging techniques, screening techniques, musculoskeletal motion studies, and other state-of-the-art imaging techniques.
Acute Stroke Therapy Program
RIA is the only radiology group in Colorado offering 24 hr/day, 7 day/week catheter-directed intra-arterial therapy for acute stroke using the latest thrombolytic agents and mechanical devices. This program, headed by Drs. Don Frei, Dan Huddle, and Richard Bellon also uses the latest advancements in imaging techniques to ensure rapid diagnosis of acute stroke as early as possible.
Spine Pain Management Programs
Members of RIA have been active in the development of image-guided injection therapies for treatment of chronic and acute back and neck pain. Drs. Leuthke and Griffin have taught courses at the Society of Interventional Radiology national meetings teaching other physicians how to perform these procedures. RIA provides services such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, epidural steroid injections, facet blocks, median branch blocks, and more. This program is available at both hospital and outpatient locations.
Interventional Radiology
RIA has been a leader in interventional techniques since our radiologists began performing the first transfemoral carotid/cerebral angiograms in Colorado. Dr. Eric Malden was recruited to start the first abdominal aortic stent graft program in Colorado. Dr. Joey Steele has established a uterine fibroid embolization program as an alternative to surgical management of uterine fibroids. Other innovative interventional services include radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of solid tumors and endovascular therapy of varicose veins.
Emergency Radiology
We have a director of emergency radiology who coordinates all of our emergency radiology activities and fields and deals with issues and concerns from our emergency rooms. Many RIA radiologists practice emergency radiology and we plan to further expand this sub-specialty.
